Here are some further thoughts on the subject of "the armour of God", found in St.Paul's letter to the Ephesians chapter 6 verses 10 to 18. The armour has already been mentioned in these Scriptures in "Confidence" and "Ready for Anything". We have an unseen enemy! 1 Peter chapter 5 verse 8 says "Be alert, be on the watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams round like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour". James chapter 4 verses 7 and 8 say "So then, submit to God. Resist the Devil and he will run away from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you". So, when you put on your clothes for the day ahead, be equally automatic in putting on the "special" clothes that the Lord has provided for every believer. You need to be kitted out from head to toe each day, ready to fight, and to be protected from, the evil forces in the world.

The soldier of Christ wears a helmet, the HELMET OF SALVATION. Protect your head, knowing that you are personally saved through the death and resurrection of Christ, and always think like a person who has been "born again". Walk in right standing with God, with the BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS protecting your heart from condemnation and confirming your moral behaviour. Put on the BELT OF TRUTH, which is the Biblical truth of the Word holding you safely in God's care as you go through your day. Carry the SHIELD OF FAITH before you. Roman shields in the Bible times were large and tough, a defence against physical enemy weapons. Therefore you need to withstand the "flaming arrows" of the Evil One. You have to put on a pair of suitable shoes, so remember also to put your feet into the SHOES OF PEACE. Be peaceful at all times, walking in peace with people, trusting in God and standing firm in your faith. Lastly, remember to pick up your SWORD. This sword is the Word of God, wielded with the help of the Holy Spirit, who divides truth from falsehood and will show you how to use the Scriptures to chase your enemy away. Fight him in the name of our Lord Jesus, and with LOVE.

Now you are fully dressed in your Spirital Clothing - confident and ready for anything. Jesus said (John chapter 10 verse 10) "The thief comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy. I have come in order that you might have life - life in all its fullness". Enjoy each day of your life as a gift from the Lord.
